Mastan Babu Malli was an Indian Mountaineer who created many world records in mountaineering. He was born on 3 September 1974 and died unfortunately on 24 March 2015.
Mastan is best known for his 2006 world record that he created by climbing all seven continent’s highest peaks in 172 days which is the shortest span of that time. He started this climbing on the first peak on January 19, 2006 and completed the seventh peak on July 10, 2006. He attained the record by climbing each of the seven climbs on a different day of the weeks.

Education and Professional Career
Mali was born on 3 September 1974 at Gandhi JanaSangam Village of Andhra Pradesh to a hindu family of Malli Mastanayya and Subbamma. He had four siblings and was the fifth child of his parents. His parents kept his name after a saint, Mastan Swamy.
Malli was the first in his family to receive the formal education. He completed his engineering education from National Institute of Technology, Jamshedpur in 1996. After Engineering, he went on to pursue Masters in management, and earned M.Tech in Electronics from Indian Institute of Management Calcutta in 1998.
Malli got a chance to work in Satyam Computers where he worked for three years, after which he was selected for the two year Post Graduate program in Management at Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta and graduated in 2004.
Achievements and Awards
- Mastan Babu Malli received annual Distinguished Alumnus Award presented by IIMC in November 2011.
- He completed a “75 day High altitude trek from the Mount Everest region to Kanchenjunga, covering a total of approximately 1, 100 km of Himalayan terrain.”
- Malli made a record of submitting of the highest peak in each of the seven continents in 2006.
He also accomplished trekking and climbing at high altitude traverse of the four dhams of Uttrakhand in July and June 2007. - With the support of Indian Army, he made another achievement of running 14 half marathons in 14 day in 14 different states between 21 October and 3 November. In this way he had completed 8 full Marathons and 3 half Marathons in 13 days.

Death of Malli Mastan
Malli died on 24 March 2015 inside his pitched tent when he was climbing solo on the slopes of Cerro Tres Cruces Sur in the Andes, and struck in extreme bad weather.
It took around 10 days for the rescue team to locate him and found his body on 2 April 2015. He was on the mission of completing his last of the ten highest peaks in the Andes and then was expecting returning back to India but could not do that.
