13 February, every year is celebrated as World Radio Day. It was decided on the 36th UNESCO session of the General Conference that it would celebrate this day in honor of the establishment of the United Nations Radio in 1946.

Every year a unique theme is selected for celebrating the day. For example, the theme in the year 2019 was “Dialogue, Tolerance and Peace”.

Why do we celebrate World Radio day?

Radio is one of the strongest means of mass communication that works well in many situations especially during war, peace or such crisis when television communication is halted or not possible to watch. It is easier to carry and store.
