If you have a child who has yet not attained the age of 18 years but is over the age of 17 years, you can register the child in advance to become voters.
The Election Commission of India on Thursday announced that youth above the age of 17 years can now apply in advance to enroll their names in the voter list.
The commissioner said in a statement, “17+ year old youngsters can now apply in advance for having their names enrolled in Voter’s list and not necessarily have to await the ore-requisite criterion of attaining age of 18 years on 1st January of a year.’
With this, now the youth will not have to wait for the pre-requisite criteria of attaining the age of 18 years on January 1 to register their names in the voter list.
Chief election commissioner Rajiv Kumar and election commissioner Anup Chandra Pandey has directed the chief electoral officers and electoral registration officers of all the states to work out to work out on some technology related solutions that can help the youth to file their application in advance.

Youth above the age of 17 years can now apply in advance to enroll their names in the voter list.
So that before the completion of 18 years, youth can apply for adding name to the voter list. On completion of 18 years on 1st January, 1st April, 1st July or 1st October in a year, the name will now be added to the voters list.
