Early Life of Andrew Symonds
Andrew Symonds was born in United Kingdom and was an adopted child by parents Ken and Barbara. They adopted Andrew when he was 3 months old only.
It is believed that one of his birth parents was of African-Caribbean background while the other parent was of Scandinavian descent.
His adopted parents moved to Australia when Andrew was very small just a toddler. He had three siblings including a sister Loise Symonds who was also an adopted child. Loise Symonds even participated as a contestant in Australian Gladators television series in 2008.
How did Andrew Symonds got his nick name “Roy”
Andrew Symonds had a nickname “Roy”. This name came from shortening his name “Leroy.” His coach had kept his name Leroy because he would think that Andrew resembled a local Brisbane basketball player name “Leroy Loggins”.
Andrew Symonds Cricket Career
Symonds was a right handed batsman who was equally good in throwing spins or medium pace as a bowler. He was very good in fielding also so making him a completer all rounder of all the time.
Ricky Pointing has even said that he had never seen a fielder like Andrew Symonds. He would consider Symonds better than and more versatile than Herschelle Gibbs and Jonty Rhodes. Jhonty Rhodes himself is a very fast player and good fielder.
One of the main reason of this was that Symonds taller than the above batsman which always provided him an extra edge in the playground. He was 187 cm tall.
Andrew was an Australian Cricket Academy scholarship holder in the year 1994 and played he also won the Cricket Writer’s Club Young Cricketer of the Year award in 1995. After this he was selected as a part of the English A team and went to Pakistan on a tour. But he opted not to chose that and rather went on to pursue his career in international cricket for Austrlia.
But there would always be someone, who would get an opportunity if you leave it for him. And it was “Jason Pooley” who later replaced Andrew Symonds and was taken on the tour to Pakistan.
Andrew’s cricket career declined at one point of time and in 2005 he was suspended for turning up drunk ahead of the shock ODI loss to Bangladesh at Cardiff.
Death of Andrew Symonds
Symonds died in a car accident in Queensland late on Saturday, 16 May 2022. The local police reported that Symonds was driving the car which left the road and rolled.
Australian cricket has lost its third most important member in the last couple of months. It was spin legend Shane Warne and Wicket-keeping Rod Marsh who died just couple of months before Andrew left the world.
Family of Andrew Symonds
Andrew was married to Laura who told the local press that the family was in entire shock. She said, “He was such a bug person and there is just so much of of him in his kids.”

Andrew Symonds have two kids with his second wife, Laura. Name of the kids are Billy Symonds(Male) and Chloe Symonds(Female).

Andrew was a generational talent who was instrumental in Australia’s success at World Cups and as part of Queensland’s rich cricket history. He was a cult figure to many and was treasured by his fans and friends.”
