The First World War was started on 28 July 1914. It lasted for 4-5 years. On 11 November 1918 there was a ceasefire contract happened between Germany and the Elite countries.
Just after this contract the World War Stopped.
How is Armistice Day celebrated?
Though Armistice day should be the day of happiness as the First World War was stopped on this day but still it is also celebrated as Remembrance Day. Lots of people died, army men sacrificed their lives and many suffered during First World War.
Therefore though Armistice Day should be celebrated as a day of happiness but still tribute is given to those who suffered during this war.

The ceasefire contract for ending First World War happened on 11 November at 11am therefore, it keeps a very significant role in the history.
