Early life Biography of Baba Sohan Singh
Baba Sohan Singh Bhakna was a freedom fighter who born on January 22, 1870 in a Shergil Jat family in a village called ‘Khutrai Khurd’ in Amritsar district of Punjab.
His father’s name was Bhai Karam Singh and mother’s name was Rani Kaur. His father died when Sohan Singh was just one year old. His mother raised him alone in the absence of his father.
Sohan Singh ji started his education from the village itself. He started learning Urdu at the age of 11 years from one of the primary school of the village. He completed his school education at the age of 16 years.
Married life of Sohan Singh
When Sohan Singh was ten years old, he was married to Bishan Kaur. Bishan Kaur was the daughter of Kushal Singh who was a zamindar near Lahore.
When he was young, Sohan Singh fell in the company of bad people. He squandered his entire ancestral wealth in drinking and other wasteful activities. But his life got completely changed after coming in contact with Baba Keshav Singh. After meeting him, he gave up alcohol and all other bad habits.

In 1907, at the age of 40, Sohan Singh reached America in search of livelihood to earn something decent for the family. He was already aware of the freedom fighting movements being carried out in India by Lala Lajpat Rai and otehrs.
In America he got some work in a mill where already around some 200 Punjab residents were already working. They all were getting very small money in-lieu-of hard work which they were doing. Also, English people would look upon them with disdain.
Sohan Singh didn’t take much time to understand that he like other Indians was being insulted because of the slavery of the British in India. Therefore, he started building his own organization for the independence of the country.
At the same time the famous revolutionary Lala Hardayal of India was in America only who had formed an organization called ‘Pacific Coast Hindi Association‘. Baba Sohan Singh became its president, and all other Indians joined this organization. This organization would work towards the benefits of Indians and freedom of India.
