Delhi second Airport to be built at Jewar Greater Noida
onThe civil aviation ministry has given a green signal for building Delhi’s second airport at Jewar, Greater Noida.
The decision to build second airport came after a meeting with the defence ministry officials along with other stake holders on 24 June 2017.
This will share the load of passengers that the Delhi airport terminals has to handle every year. It handles around 62 million passengers annually. As a report, it handled 57.7 million passengers in 2016-17.
Earlier it was Bhiwadi, Rajasthan among few others that was being speculated to be the next International Airport for NCR Region.
The Uttar Pradesh government has asked to do the technical evaluation of the site for the Jewar aiport project and its execution. It is estimated that it would be an investment of around 15 Thousand crores.
It was in 2001, when the plan for building a second aiport at Jewar was made by then Chief Minister, Mayawati.
