6 Tips to Keep an indoor Cat happy

Cats are considered quite independent beings and the credit goes to their lazy and carefree attitude. These are one of the most popular pets and are used as working animals to keep the rats and mice away from the home.

Cats are natural predators hence, they easily get bored. So keeping an indoor cat happy is a real task.

Outdoor cats who roam freely are at high risk of dying young, whereas indoor cats can live up to 15 years or even more. Indoor cats are also healthier as they usually don’t catch any communicable diseases, parasites, and abscesses because of conflicts with other animals. They indeed like sunshine, fresh air, and physical activities however they do not require to go outside to feel good. You can give a happy life to your indoor cat with some innovative planning. If you want to raise a happy indoor cat, the following tips will provide you with great help.

1. Provide good food

Good food plays a vital role to keep your cute cat happy and healthy. You can set up a feeding schedule for your cat. The cats usually prefer 2 meals a day, each after 8 to 12 hours. Your vet can advise you on how much your pet needs to eat depending upon their size and activity level. Don’t feed them too much as it can result in weight gain. Some human foods such as onion, garlic, nuts, and chocolate, can be toxic for the cat so avoid them feeding on your plate.

2. Don’t forget to play

Play with your cat every day. Pick different toys that your cat can stalk, chase, pounce, and kick. If you find that your cat is sleepy, put stuff out of their reach that can harm them. Allow them to play with paper bags (without handles) or cardboard boxes when you can’t be around them.

3. Take the Cat on walk

Don’t leave your cat alone when you take them on a walk. Invest in a harness and train your cat to walk with that, if you don’t want to encounter any free dogs. This training will take time and patience. However, it will be smoother when your cat is young.

4. Let them scratch

Cats like jumping, climbing, and sharpening their claws. You can find a variety of cat toys like scratchers, cat trees, and scratch poles that can allow them to enjoy their pastime indoors.

5. Provide a clean toilet

When it comes to toilets, cats are very picky. So you should provide them with a clean litter pan.  Cats also don’t use space that looks like another cat has spoiled it. Cats prefer not to eat close to the litter so keep the litter tray and dining spot in different rooms. They also look for variation, which needs many litter trays.

6. Tag them

A very important part of pet care is tagging them. You can opt for a collar and visible ID for your cat.  It helps to reunite you and your cat if your cat ventures outside due to any reason.

Apart from that, don’t overlook the regular checkup from a vet. They provide some helpful tips for pet care.
