Every year on 2 October, the world celebrates International Day of Non-Violence which marks the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the “Father of the Nation”.
Objective of International Day of Non-Violence
This day marks the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi who is seen as the symbol of peace. He contributed and sacrificed a lot during freedom fight of India.
The main objective of celebrating International Day of Non-Violence is to spread awareness among people about the idea of non-violence and make people aware of using their rights and perform duties without any violence.
The awareness for the importance of non-violence can be spread either through education or any other means.
Who is considered as the most Non-Violent person of the world?
The Father of the Nation “Mahatama Gandhi” is known as the most non-violent leader of the world.
When was the first non-violence day celebrated?
In the year June 2007, the United Nations General Assembly marked 2nd October, the birth anniversary of Gandhiji as International Day of Non-violence.
Here we would like to mention that it was only Gandhiji who has been the first and the only Indian being honoured with the title ‘Time Person of the Year’ in 1930.
Short Bio of Mahatma Gandhi
Mahtama Gandhi was born on 2nd October, 1869 in Porbandar, Gujarat state of India.
His original name was “Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi”. His mother name was Putlibai and father was Karamchand Uttamchand Gandhi. His father was the dewan of Porbandar.
Porbandar was the capital of small principality in western part of India that time which is not known as Gujarat state.
Gandhiji was the youngest child of his father’s fourth wife.
Gandhi Ji did his law education from South Africa and served as Indian lawyer, Politician, social activist, freedom fighter. It is said that when he was going to South Africa his mother had taken three promises from him.
