Former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was shot twice at a campaign event in the Nara region. The attacker is said to have been arrested. As per the initial reports the former prime minister was “showing no vital signs” when he was taken to hospital. He later died during the treatment.
After the incident, the Chief cabinet secretary Hirokazu Matsuno told reporters, “Former prime minister Abe was shot at around 11:30 local time (02:30 GMT) in Nara. One man, believed to be the shooter, has been taken into custody. The condition of former prime minister Abe is currently unknown, Whatever the reason, such a barbaric act can never be tolerated, and we strongly condemn it.”
Shinzo Abe was one of the famous Japanese politician who also served as the prime minister of Japan for the longest period. He was also the President of the Liberal Democratic Party from 2006 to 2007. Later he was chosen again from 2012 to 2020.
He was the longest-serving prime minister in Japanese history.

Mr Abe was giving a stump speech in Nara when he was attacked. Some of the eye witnesses claim to have seen a man with a large gunfire from behind the Prime Minister.
