Pericardium is a twin thinned layers of a sac-liked-tissue that surrounds our heart. The main function of it is to keep hold of the heart and help it to work its normal function.
There is always a small fluid that keeps the twin layers to separate so that their fluid do not get mixed and there is no friction between them.
What is Pericarditis?
Whenever there is any inflammation of the pericardium, it causes Pericarditis. It causes the two layers rubbing against the heart causing the chest pain. A person might feel like a heart attack also many times when the two layers rub very hard against the heart.
What causes Pericarditis?
Pericarditis is caused by the following factors:
- Infections due to virus, bacteria, fungus etc.
- Heart attack
- Heart surgery
- Kidney failure, tuberculosis, AIDS, cancer etc.
- Side effects of some medicines
- Accidents or any injury
What can happen due to Pericarditis?
Pericarditis can feel you like a small pain in your chest which one ignores many times. One reason of people ignoring it is because it does not last for so long. But if left untreated it can cause heart attack or some time death also in worst situations.
