Rohini Vrat Story रोहिणी व्रत कथा in English

In this Bharat region (India country) of Jambudweep, there was a country named Kuruzangal which had a very beautiful state named Hastinapur.

Once upon a time there was a king named Vitashok. Vidyutprabha, the queen of King Vitashok, gave birth to a son, Ashoka. At the same time, a king named Maghava ruled in the kingdom of Champa of Anga country at the same time.

King Maghwa’s queen’s name was Shrimati who gave birth to eight sons and a daughter named Rohini. Once Rohini kept a fast on the Ashtahik festival and kept a puja for the same in the temple. Rohini’s parents and ministers sitting in the hall talked about her swayamvara. After which some ministers suggested to get the princess married with the prince of Hastinapur, Ashoka.

Rohini got married to Prince Ashok of Hastinapur. After marriage, the king of Hastinapura was made Ashoka. After some time Rohini gave birth to eight sons and four daughters. One day, King Ashoka was sitting on the terrace of the palace with his wife Rani Rohini. And on one side was sitting Vasantilka Dhaya. In whose lap the youngest son of the king was playing Lokpal.

Then Rohini saw from the terrace of her palace that some women were crying with a child in their lap, spreading their hair and beating their chest. Seeing this, Rani Rohini asked her midwife Vasanttilaka Dhatri, what drama is these women are doing. Vasantilka Dhatri said filled with anger, have you gone mad?

You do not know wisdom and opulence, that is, you do not know “grief” and “sorrow”. On hearing such words of Dhatri, Rohini said, Oh dear, do not get angry with me, I know Gandharvavidya, Mathematics, Painting, Sixty-four sciences and seventy-two arts. But I have not seen such a quality till now, and no one has told me. That’s why I am asking you what drama all this is doing.

On hearing the words of Queen Rohini, Vasanttilka said, these women are mourning over the death of someone. The king Ashoka said he would tell her the meaning of mourning with an example.

The king took his son Lokpal who was playing in the lap of the midwife. He took her and threw him down from the roof of the palace. Lokpal fell on the top of the Ashoka tree, at the same time the gods came to the city and anointed him with a hundred urns filled with Kshirsagar and seated him on the divine throne. When King Ashoka and the queen looked down, they were very surprised at Ashoka’s branch. Because his son was alive. All this was the result of the virtuous deeds done by Rohini.

Outside the kingdom of Hastinapur, there were four jinn temples named Atibhutitilak, Mahabhutilak, Vibhutitilak and Ambartilaka in Ashokavan. Which were situated in all the four directions. One day, two Charan sages named Roopkumbh and Swarnakumbh reached there while smoldering. And due to them being the same night, both of them stopped in Jinmandir situated in the east direction.

When Ashoka heard this news of the sages arriving there he with his family members and ancestors reached there to welcome there. While doing service, King Ashoka Maharaj asked both the sages – O Lord, please tell me what virtuous deed I and my wife Rohini have done so that I am getting the good fortune of your service.

After listening to the king, Munishresh said, O Rajan, apart from this Jambudweep on this earth, there is Saurashtra country in Bharat region. In which there is a very big city named Giri in the west of Urjayantgiri. The king of this city is Bhupal and the queen is Swarupa. King Bhupal has a Gangadatta Rajashreshthi whose wife’s name is Sindhumati who is very proud of itself.

One day, while going for Vanakrida along with Gangadutt King Bhupal, he saw Samadhi Gupta Muniraj at the entrance of the city for food. He immediately came to his house and said to his wife Sindhumati, oh dear, on your way to your house, give food to Muniraj and come from behind. Sindhumati got very angry after hearing her husband’s words and she gave food of bitter gourd to Muniraj.

The Muniraj accepted that food and died. When the king came to know about this incident, he immediately came to Sindhumati and took her around the whole city by shaving her head, tying five bells on her and sitting on a donkey. After which she was thrown out of the state.

After which Sindhumati got a disease called Udumbar leprosy, due to which she died on the seventh day itself. After death, she, while traveling in all the seven hells, probably came in oblivion and took birth twice as bitches. After which Sukri, Shringali, Chuhiya, Gonch, Hathini, Gadhi and Gaunika were also born.

Later she was born as a daughter from the womb of Pootigandha, the wife of Rajshreshti Dhanamitra of this same Hastinapur. Since her birth itself a foul smell used to come. Due to which it became difficult to even sit near her. At the same time, the son of Vasumitra Seth of the city, Shrisen, who was a sapta addict stole one day, and was caught by the Kotwal. And he too was being driven out of town.

But at the same time Dhanamitra came there and said, Shrisen, if you marry my daughter, then I can get your punishment forgiven. Shrishen agreed to Dhanmitra and both were married with great pomp. But after marriage he spent with his wife Durgdha and he was very much disturbed by her smell and ran away in the morning.

fter which Putigandha came to her father’s house and started spending her life losing her luck. One day he made Suvrata Aryika a meal at her father’s house. After which he came to the forest along with Amitasrav Muniraj, a Charanmuni named Anantara Pihitasrav.

After which everyone worshiped the Guru and listened to the sermons. After which Putigandha asked the guru that O Gurudev, after all what such action I have done in my previous birth. Hearing the words of Putigandha, Muniraj said, O daughter, you were a sethani named Sindhumati in your last birth. And then you had given food of bitter gourd to a monk.

As a result of which you have been suffering for a long time due to hell and oblivion. And still your sins are left, after listening to the sage, Pootigandha said, O Gurudev, is there no such way by which I can get rid of my sins.

Then that sage said, O daughter, if you keep the fast of Rohini for seven consecutive years every month, then you will get freedom from this sin. After which she fasted Rohini every month for the whole seven years with full law and law. As a result of which you have got all this today.
