Princess Sanyogita’s Swayamvar

To marry his daughter Sanyogita, King Jaichand invited all the big kings to the swayamvara but he did not send the invitation to Prithviraj Chauhan.

King Jaichand called daughter Sanyogita to him and told her clearly that he could not marry Prithviraj because he hated Prithviraj Chauhan. After deciding the marriage of his daughter, King Jaichand performed the Ashwamedha yajna and after the yagya was over, he declared his daughter’s swayambar. For this, Prithviraj promised Princess Sanyogita that he would definitely attend the swayamvara. Prithviraj Chauhan openly challenges Jaichand that if he can stop him from taking his wife, then stop him.

What happened on the day of Sanyogita Swayamvar?

Even after this insult of Prithviraj Chauhan, Jaichand did not stop, he made an iron idol of Prithviraj and placed him in the place of the gatekeeper. Princess Sanyogita was not aware that Prithviraj Chauhan had not been invited to her Swayamvar.

That is why when she reached the court to put the garland, she did not see Prithviraj Chauhan. On the day of swayamvara, Sanyogita left all the kings and princes behind, and went on rejecting each, and finally Sanyogita reached the statue of Prithviraj Chauhan built by Jaichand as the gate guard.

At that time, Prithviraj Chauhan, who was hiding behind the statue, immediately came out on Sanyogita’s arrival and as soon as Prithviraj Chauhan appeared, Sanyogita put a garland around his neck.

Seeing this scene, King Jaichand became enraged and proceeded to kill Sanyogita but then Emperor Prithviraj Chauhan caught Sanyogita’s hand and took her to Delhi with him on his horse.

Jaichand’s revenge with Prithviraj Chauhan

Due to this incident, Jaichand had to face humiliation in front of a huge assembly of kings and princes. This incident made Jaichand very angry.

Jaichand was furious with anger and for this reason wanted to take revenge on Prithviraj. Hence, he formed an alliance with Muhammad Ghori, who was previously defeated 16 times by Prithviraj Chauhan.

After allied with Muhammad Ghori, Jaichand extended his support to Ghori’s army to attack Delhi.
