Who was Valentine?

People know Valentine as an occasion of celebrating love. They don’t know the real meaning of Valentine. Actually, Valentine is not the name of a day but name of a priest.

Real Story of Valentine Day

Valentine would live in Rome which was being ruled by Claudius. The king wished to become a powerful ruler and needed a big army for the same.

Most of the people of Rome were having families who did not want to go to the army dye to family. The king made a rule to ban all the marriages to encourage the people of Rome to join army.

People disliked this decision of the king but could not say anything against this due to the fear. Pastor Valentine also did not like this even.

One day a couple came to Paster to get themselves married. The Pastor Valentine got them married secretly in a room.

It was done quietly but somehow the ruler came to know about this. He imprisoned the Pastor Valentine and also sentenced him to death. Pastor was locked behind the bars in jail.

People would come to visit the pastor in the jail to give him roses and gifts. He was sentenced to death on 14th February 269 A.D. Pastor wrote a letter before dying to address to those who loved him and appreciated him. So, from that day till today, February 14 is celebrated as Valentine’s Day in the memory of Valentine.
