Every year on 2 October, the world celebrates International Day of Non-Violence which marks the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the “Father of the Nation”.
The main objective of celebrating International Day of Non-Violence is to spread awareness among people about the idea of non-violence and make people aware of using their rights and perform duties without any violence.
The awareness for the importance of non-violence can be spread either through education or any other means.
In the year June 2007, the United Nations General Assembly marked 2nd October, the birth anniversary of Gandhiji as International Day of Non-violence.
Mahtama Gandhi was born on 2nd October, 1869 in Porbandar, Gujarat state of India.His original name was “Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi”. His mother name was Putlibai and father was Karamchand Uttamchand Gandhi. His father was the dewan of Porbandar.
Gandhi Ji did his law education from South Africa and served as Indian lawyer, Politician, social activist, freedom fighter. It is said that when he was going to South Africa his mother had taken three promises from him.
He started many movements during freedom fight for India. Gandhi ji died on 30 October, 1948.
Here we would like to mention that it was only Gandhiji who has been the first and the only Indian being honoured with the title ‘Time Person of the Year’ in 1930.
