Introduction: The Timeless Role of Teachers
Teachers have always played a central role in shaping individuals and societies. In India, the reverence for teachers is deeply ingrained, with historical tales like Eklavya’s sacrifice for his guru, Dronacharya, highlighting their esteemed status.
Online Educational Apps: A Modern Dilemma
In the age of digital transformation, a pressing question arises: Can online educational apps replace the traditional role of teachers? Are they diminishing the importance of classroom teaching, especially in a country that has held teachers in such high regard?
Challenging the Credibility of E-Learning
The credibility of e-learning is under scrutiny, particularly as universities increasingly offer courses through online platforms. While technology offers convenience, it raises questions about the depth and quality of education provided.
Can Google be considered a “Teacher”?
In today’s world, Google often seems like a magic solution to every query. But is this ease of access to information eroding the problem-solving skills and creativity that were once nurtured by seeking guidance from teachers and elders?
Creativity is succumbed to death when everything is so readily available.
There was a time, when our classmates who took tuition, would shy to share it with anyone! Reason: Fear of mockery by other friends.
Traditionally, education was being passed orally, latter information was passed through manuscripts and now Online learning has become a new norm. Time changes!
Are Online Learning Apps Beneficial?
Online learning apps are good, after all digitization has taken core place in our lives, so why not education? But, what they lack is human to human interaction and communication- the best way kids learn things.
Kids have access to their syllabus any day, any time at just a mouse click away through these apps.
But there was a time also when education was given by revered sages after acquiring deep knowledge, students would leave there homes to reside and learn with there Gurus in forests, way faraway from there parents.
We are not against taking help from any source. When it comes to learning and gaining grades, every student do ample things. Ever increasing competition, no parent wants to leave any stone unturned.
Classrooms vs Online Apps for Learning Purpose
These Apps claim to help a kid for better understanding the basic concepts of any chapter of mathematics, science ( physics, chemistry, biology). But, again it provides your kid one more reason to stick to glaring screens, fatiguing their eyes, bodies and taxing your pocket too. A kid needs to have intense requirement for self-discipline and self-direction. Your kid may get too involved in an education app and lose interest in the classroom lesson.
Education is not only about cramming books, taking exams, getting good grades, its purpose is to develop life skills and inculcating moral values into one’s behavior.
An app is not meant to replace the regular curriculum but an over-reliance on education technology poses a threat to an teacher’s teaching. School administration and teachers should be encouraged to learn worth of enhancing teaching skills from these apps. Not as substitute but supplementary to class room teaching, apps can be a holistic approach. It is good if teachers can too enhance and upgrade there teaching skills by inclusion of these apps in curriculum.
A Machine can never be wrong, fault lies with the user. Children must be taught to use technology responsibly. Parents should set limits for use and implement privacy restrictions. Be vigilant about the content your kid is surfing.
If used responsibly, education apps can be a powerful tool to improve the education of our youth. Also, Apps can act as built-in lessons and aid a teacher in tracking a student’s progress without over saturating the classroom environment.
